Recently a good friend arranged an early birthday celebration for me and another birthday girl at Sandia Resort & Casino.

I had been ill that week and did not have much energy to go. But, I knew my friend had gone out of the way to make this celebration happen and so I proceeded to get ready and hope for the best.

Walking into our suite on the fifth floor made me feel better in an instant. The view from the suite’s two balconies facing the Sandia mountains – one overlooking the pristine golf course and the other overlooking the pool area – was breathtaking. It was beautiful at sunset and a great place to enjoy the rainstorm that hit that evening.

Another plus was the enormous bathroom with his-and-her sinks, a spacious bathtub, a separate shower and a spacious closet. It was impressive, and a great area for a small group of us to get ready for a girls’ night out.

All that getting ready made us hungry so we headed downstairs for the mouth-watering seafood buffet that offers endless crab legs and various other tasty fixings such as clams, peel-and-eat shrimp, oysters on the half shell and a delicious seafood soup.

One chef even surprised us with slices of moist and tasty chocolate cake and gathered some of the buffet staff to sing “Happy Birthday.” They even encouraged nearby patrons to sing along and take part in the celebration, which many did.

Then it was time to head upstairs to Sandia’s Rooftop Lounge where the views are spectacular.

We were pleasantly surprised that the Kari Simmons Group was playing. Simmons can sing anything – from ’80s and ’90s pop to ’70s soul, disco and soft rock. Simmons even invited the other birthday girl and me up to the dance floor for her cover of The Beatles’ “Birthday.”

In addition to the entertainment, I was very pleased with the service. Our cocktail waitress frequently checked on our table and made sure that my group of friends and I were taken care of.

When we checked out the next day, the front desk clerk was nice and courteous. He inquired on whether we had a good stay at Sandia Resort & Casino. It was a wonderful birthday celebration and I suggest the same experience for anyone celebrating a special occasion. Spend the extra money on the suite. It is well worth it. And, don’t forget the Rooftop Lounge. It’s the perfect stop for dressing up, getting out and enjoying an evening with classy people.

SKY CITY CASINO HOTEL: Speaking of birthdays, Sky City Casino Hotel loves to celebrate Winners Circle Players Club card members’ birthdays. Anytime during your birthday month, Winners Circle Players Club card members are given one free swipe at the kiosk to win free play.
